Sometimes you even have to cut the defenders’ gasoline to pump the counter-attacking troops and then goof off when the “home field” is crushed because… there’s no fuel to run! Players will have to deal with combat regulation while all fronts “scream” for resources. That is even more serious when you play up to the famous “shortage” campaigns in history like the Battle of Kursk Arc or Operation Market Garden, infamous for logistical problems. It was so important that even if even a single soldier, a small mine that could trap an enemy supply vehicle, could change the outcome of a war. If not properly supported, the job of Managing large-scale campaigns in Sudden Strike 4 is not easy. Just imagine, the amount of gasoline for each tank is only enough to run a few laps around the base shooting down a few enemy cars is to become a piece of scrap. With Total War: Warhammer is the battles crowded “swarming,” then Sudden Strike 4 wins points by managing logistics when the war machines paint “drinking gasoline like water,” shooting bullets scattered everywhere and… petty. If with Company of Heroes 2, the depth of battle is the arrangement of weapons. It’s hard to describe what a strategy game has in depth, but it can be said that, with many small details, Sudden Strike 4 has completed this task. Although there are quite a few scenes of the match elaborately choreographed and very classic, if the music can push a little more climax, the player’s impression will probably be deeper. The music of Sudden Strike 4 is just good enough to increase the emotion when playing, but it is a bit faded when it lacks the songs to make the game’s brand. That makes the fight in the game fierce and realistic, just like bringing players into a fierce battlespace. It shows the depth of the battlefield with layers of battles taking place simultaneously but not confused with each other. Sound is also another strength of Sudden Strike 4 when the sound of gunfire, explosions, the hiss of artillery shells, or aircraft buzzing is shown very realistically with impressive space mechanics, especially with gamers who have the habit of using headphones. The Volumetric Cloud effect is also applied smoothly to create extremely realistic gun smoke trails, explosion clouds, or smoldering fires, increasing the intensity of the battle, comparable to equal with today’s top beautiful graphics strategy games. Explosions are shown quite well with many levels ranging from small explosions caused by hand grenades, explosive shells on grenade launchers, or more “heavy” to the explosion caused by 250kg bombs dropped from aircraft… with varying degrees of destruction. For example, when an armored vehicle loses its chain when a bullet hits it or when it encounters an infantry mine, a tank is “blown away” by its turret when an ammunition box explodes…Įxplosion effects are an important part of the game for war games like Sudden Strike 4. All are shown extremely sharp with many context models for each specific situation. You will discover dozens of vehicles and weapons that can be controlled in the game, from heavy tanks to even old-fashioned rattle farmers. Overall, the graphics of Sudden Strike 4 are developed in a realistic direction with many meticulously designed and detailed models. The development team of Kite Games is not trying to create their engine, but looking to the powerful multi-platform graphics engine Unity to make the most epic and realistic battles shows that this choice is completely correct. That is even a shortcoming of the third version of the series when the “cultivator” engine is difficult to show the fierceness of the war compared to competitors of the same year such as Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes: The Opposing Fronts, or World in Conflict. Sudden Strike 4 is a real-time strategy game (Real Time Tactics), so the bloody fighting phase is certainly the highlight of the whole game.
